Pioneer Gripper

The Pioneer gripper is a 1dof manipulator. It is an optional device for a Pioneer 3 DX, Pioneer 3 AT, or Peoplebot robot. On a Pioneer, it is mounted on the front of the robot and allows the Pioneer to grasp an object placed on the floor in front of it. On a Peoplebot, the gripper is mounted on a vertical lift in the central upright portion, between the bottom of the top platform and the top of the SICK laser, and allows the Peoplebot to grasp objects placed on tables or shelves.

The gripper contains optical and mechanical sensors that allow software logic to determine whether an object is between the gripper "paddles" or is grasped. The gripper is controlled using Aria via commands sent to the robot firmware.
